About

Hey!  My name is Mia, the creator of “North Shore Jewelry.”

I was born, raised and continue to reside in Thunder Bay in north western Ontario, Canada.

I have always felt a close connection to nature, given my city sits on the shores of the largest freshwater lake in the world, Lake Superior.  We are also surrounded by other beautiful lakes, flora and fauna of the great Canadian Shield.

“North Shore Jewelry” has it origins from such natural beauty but also from the sad part of life. My Dad was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer a few years ago.

He began a new healing hobby of beach combing and collecting agates along the northern shores of Lake Superior.  One day he found a stone with a natural hole in it.  He put it in his pocket and upon returning home, he gifted it to me as he knew my appreciation of nature’s art.  As we studied it, we both envisioned it becoming the centre piece of a necklace.  So, with some left over craft supplies, I then created a simple but beautiful Lake Superior stone necklace, one that I still savour to this day.  I knew, in that moment, that combining jewelry making with my love of nature was exactly what I wanted to do.

From one stone and one necklace, I, my family and my friends continue to enjoy collecting stones and beach glass. From each precious piece, I create unique jewelry, all made with love.  This is the essence of my “North Shore Jewelry."

When not creating jewelry, you can find me teaching yoga, going on hikes with my Love and our dog, North or cuddling my cats Lily & Poppy.
